Mill Town Foundation recently invited me to paint a mural in the library of Morningside Community School. This mural was a total joy for me. I painted during school days and had the honor to get to know the students and adults who make up the very special Morningside Community.
The friendships fostered through supplementing the school with projects like this are the heartbeat of this work. It is about creating the social safety net through nurturing, recognizing, and repetition… and love. A lot of love. To those kids, I am the artist lady. Now they know that they can be an artist too. When we see each other, we look out for each other.

Artist Statement for Treehouse Mural and Rainbow Columns
I chose to paint a treehouse because I wanted to create a space that invites folks to take a deep breath and daydream.
Library murals are a special reminder of how books can transport you to different places in your imagination. For this reason, I chose to paint The Magic Treehouse. I didn’t include the characters from the book because I want everyone seeing the mural to imagine themselves and their friends in the scene.
The Rainbow Columns include 11 colors, in an attempt to recreate the natural beauty found in the intersection of science and art, and some of my favorite atmospheric phenomena: rainbows and sundogs.
Touch the clouds, take a breath, and remember to let your imagination lead the way.
